Bali. Damara Bali Foundation was established in 2015 and registered as a non-profit Indonesia Foundation
(Yayasan) with the Indonesia Ministry of Law and Human Rights Indonesia No AHU – 0006690.AH 2015.
Who runs Damara?
Damara was founded by I Nengah Swikrama, who grew up in an orphanage and received education thanks to
the support of other people’s generosity. He has worked for over 30 years to assist children living in
orphanages. For the last 8 years before starting Damara he was the Director of Widhya Asih, managing an
organisation that provides homes and education to over 500 children and helps with many community
projects.
How does Damara help?
Our main aims are:
- Direct sponsorship of children who have dropped out/or are at risk of dropping out of school because
their parents are too poor to provide the cost of books, basic school supplies and uniforms.
- Help poor farmers to have sustainable capability for generating income to provide for their children
and send them to school.
How is Villa Bugis associated with Damara?
Villa Bugis proudly supports Damara as its primary charity. Damara started with generous contribution from
Villa Bugis, a villa management company in Seminyak, Bali (www.villabugis.com). Villa Bugis have committed to
continue with annual donations and also with coverage of the cost of all administration of the charity to
ensure 100% of donations go directly to those that benefit most.
How many children are currently supported
Damara supports nearly 100 children for the school year 2019-2020, all living in extremely poor villages in
north and east Bali. All these children had already dropped out of school.
How much does it cost to sponsor a child?
The cost is quite small – IDR1,500,000 per year per child – or about AUD$150 per year
How is the donation money managed
Damara works with trusted school administrators who identify the children in need of help. No money is given
directly to the families, but is used for paying for direct expenses for the children to send school. Damara
representative visits regularly to monitor how the children are doing and receive school reports.
How are we matched with the children we sponsor?
Sponsorship is made to those most vulnerable, and in most need, as identified by their school, who’s staff
work very closely with Damara and the community. If you have children, we often try and match those with
similar gender and age group, for reliability.
Are we able to visit the children that we will be sponsoring?
Yes, this is possible after sponsorship has been made – it is a full day trip to and from the rural areas that the
children are living.
What do we receive after sponsorship?
You will receive photos and bio’s of the child you sponsor, it is also possible to communicate via written (and
translated) leers if you wish – as well as 6 monthly school reports and a quarterly newsletter
How do we make a payment?
Please visit www.damara-bali.org/donate-here – all Damara Overheads Finance and Admin services are provided by Villa Bugis. Direct payments can be made into the Damara account, but this is usually costly with fees from overseas, from both ends, not making it worthwhile.
How do we renew each year?
Each year we will contact you to renew your assistance and commitment, and you can then choose to renew the same way as initial payment was made.

My husband and 2 teenage girls stayed in Villa Kebun for 9 glorious nights. The villa was a welcome oasis of quietness, calm and beauty amongst the hustle and bustle of Bali. The villa itself was spacious (we only used 2 of the 3 bedrooms avail, as the girls shared the large king bedroom. The bedrooms were well equipped with king size beds, mosquito nests, air con, fans. The outside bathrooms were lovely and spacious too. The pool was fantastic and there was plenty of shade and sun baking spots throughout the well kept gardens. Villa Kebun staff were fantastic. Anna cooking our breakfast every morning and Gedeye and Brata looking after us during the day/evening. All staff were friendly and spoke excellent English. The villa itself was in a fantastic area (we stay in this area most times we visit Bali) with only a 5 min stroll through the shady lanes straight to the beach. Laneways behind our villa lead to Bintang Supermarket one way and restaurants etc the other way. Check out Grain, opposite Bintang Supermarket if you want good coffee. We would love to return to this villa as we could not fault it. Thank you.

My family stayed in Villa Kebun for 2 weeks. We could not have asked for anything better. From the moment we walked through the doors into our private paradise we knew our holiday would be special. We enjoyed swimming in the amazing pool, lazing in the shady bale surrounded by palms and frangipanis. Anna prepared our amazing breakfasts everymorning and Gede, Brata and the other staff looked after all our other requests. Nothing was a problem they were truly professional and always happy. Our rooms were spacious with comfortable beds and airconditioning. We loved the large outdoor bathrooms and showering under the moonlight was very liberating. The Villa is located a short walk or scooter ride to the beach, shopping and excellent restaurants. If you choose to have a night in, you can order from the extensive takeaway menu and have your meal delivered to your door. We ordered Thai for 6 people for around $35. We cant rate the villa and the staff highly enough…truly wonderful holiday. Thankyou
What a joy it is to find a place like Villa Kebun – secluded, quiet and a short stroll from the beach, some of Bali’s best restaurants and major shopping strips in the heart of Seminyak. This has been our 3rd trip to this particular villa, we love it.
‘The garden villa’ certainly lives up to its name with impeccably groomed gardens: we especially love the frangipani tree. There’s plenty of space for 3 couples (each of the 3 rooms has a spacious ensuite) although the opulence with to 2-3 of us was just fantastic. Our week went quickly as we lounged away around the numerous banana lounges and daybed, not forgetting the generous infinity pool – a refreshing escape from the midday sun.
Staff were always very friendly, attentive and prompt to all our needs, including making restaurant reservations. Again, thanks for such an enjoyable stay and we can’t wait to visit again soon!
Villa Kebun is an absolutely stunning place to relax and unwind in Seminyak. It’s close to everything, yet peaceful and quiet as soon as you step inside the doors. The space itself is incredibly beautiful, with luscious gardens and amazing outdoor showers in each room. The pool is the perfect temperature, and lazing on the daybed is a very easy way to pass the days.
The rooms are spacious and well air-conditioned, and the open plan living room and kitchen is the perfect place to relax with family or friends.
I can’t speak highly enough of the amazing staff at Villa Kebun. They were so warm and attentive to our every need, and came in each day to keep the place spotless. The kitchen is well furnished with everything you need to cook a meal, or you can have a delicious meal cooked for you by the chefs on staff!
We had a wonderful trip and can’t wait to return in the future.
