Paramount Pictures in Bali

It has been reported that the signing of a co-operation agreement has been reached, and that a theme park with Paramount Pictures in Bali may happen, and soon be home to the biggest theme park in Southeast Asia. Paramount Pictures is part of Viacom CBS, the owner of the largest TV market share in the United States and also the owner of Nickelodeon, as well as the international film producers of Mission Impossible, Top Gun, Star Trek, and The Godfather.

So far it has been planned for 2025, and it is mooted for the Jembrana Regency (about 2 hrs north west of Seminyak). It is hopefully expected to attract around 5 million visitors a year.

Paramount Pictures in Bali would definitely bring a lot of interest from the region. The presence of the theme park is very strategic, considering that it is located in the Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road development area which stretches for 95 kilometres, connecting the Gilimanuk port to the cities of Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan.

It is interesting that Bali has been chosen as the location, and not somewhere closer to the most populous areas such as Jakarta – but this may also make sense, due to the fact that Bali is already an international destination, and that Jakarta’s famous overcrowding/pollution and traffic jams has already seen the government looking at moving much of the public service activities out of Java altogether.

It is hoped the construction of the Paramount Pictures in Bali theme park will further strengthen Bali’s position as a center for recreation and entertainment for the world’s citizens. It will also improve Bali’s economy, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic and if it becomes a reality, it is sure to bring a much needed boost to all sectors of the local economy.
