Bintang Supermarket Rebuild Update

Bintang Supermarket

And now for a Bintang Supermarket Rebuild Update. As you may remember from this earlier blog  Bintang rebuilding progress blog an icon of Seminyak, Bintang Supermarket burned down in Jan 2020. It’s plans for rebuilding began in Aug 2020, and now 1 year on, there is quite a lot of progress, as the new shape takes place. Seems like a definite change in design (would not be hard!). Bintang is an institution for all those who have stayed in Seminyak, not just a place to buy fresh fruit, groceries, alcohol, and all sorts of things you did and didn’t need, but also a central reference place for people to refer to – we are staying near Bintang – or meet you at Bintang. Most people of course know the local Bintang beer – but the supermarket is just as famous in Seminyak.

In the meantime, one shops misfortune means the fortunes of others – there are also many other alternatives people have found now to do their shopping – so they have gained a lot from the Bintang Supermarket situation – Grand Lucky on Sunset Road, Pepitos, Frestive, Sunset Point shopping centre and even the local markets are great sources of good food and grocery items. The poor specialty shops next to Bintang though have struggled, not just with the pandemic, but of course the usual traffic that Bintang Supermarket used to bring. It looks like there will also be a whole lot of new specialty shops around the side when its completed, no doubt making this a central icon once again.

There is a smaller temporary Bintang Supermarket open at the back for all grocery shopping needs in the meantime, but we are all looking forward to the new Bintang – it’s beginning to look like its bigger and better than before, so we are looking forward to what emerges like a phoenix from the ashes! Watch this space for  Bintang Supermarket Rebuild Update!
